Christmas Cheer and Fine Motor Skills

The children in the three/four-day class have been enjoying fine motor activities centered around Christmas. Students are using tongs to sort Christmas-themed erasers; creating candy cane patterns with pony beads and pipe cleaners; and using tangram shapes for Christmas pictures.

“All of these activities help to develop the palmer arches in their hands, as well as an open web space – the space between the thumb and index finger,” said Lead Teacher Shannon Jones. “This development is crucial for the maturation of the hands skills necessary to use tools and write later on.”
