Inspiring a Sense of Wonder in Nature
November 1, 2016
“At St. Mary’s, we believe in connecting children with nature as often and as early in their development as possible,” said Shannon Jones, 3/4-Day teacher.
Jones’ class went on a nature walk this week to look for signs of Fall. Students explored fallen leaves, acorns, twigs and living plants on the trail. Then back in the classroom, the children investigated their collections with magnifying glasses and on the light table.
“By just being outside and through frequent interaction with nature, children develop a sense of wonder and responsibility for caring for their world,” Jones said.
